A few simple habits help you enjoy your candle safely. Always follow the instructions on your candle’s label.
Before you light it
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each burn.
- Keep the wax clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris.
- Place the candle upright on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts.
While it burns
- Keep a burning candle in sight and out of reach of children and pets.
- Keep at least 12 inches between the candle and anything that can burn.
- Never leave it burning when you leave the room or go to sleep.
- Do not burn for more than four hours at a time, or the shorter limit on the label.
- Do not touch or move the candle while the wax is liquid.
When to stop
Extinguish the candle when ½ inch of wax remains. Let the vessel cool completely before handling it. Never use water to extinguish a candle.
